Great value for money offset smokers!

Great value for money offset smokers!
Previously had the Cosmo grill XXL and was looking to upgrade. After huge amounts of research and being slightly tentative with the purchase of this due to the lack of reviews I took the plunge. First I am very impressed with the weight and quality feel. Construction does take a while and you literally build it using every but and bolt (similar to my previous Cosmo grill) but instructions were ok. Once built it is a hefty piece of kit, great size grill and smoke box with everything appearing well made. It is well worth purchasing the specific BBQ cover for it too due to it's size and shape. A slight complaint is the air vent on the side of the smoke box is not very air tight and does allow a fair bit of smoke out. The latch is also slightly loose so I added a washer to this to make it firmer. It is worth using gasket tape to secure opening making it more air tight. The grills inside feels much more robust compared to the XXL (which I ended up replacing due to rust) and the airflow does work really well. A opening to brush ash out of would be really useful as the curve of the barrell can make it awkward to clear. I ended up using a curved trowel to scoop up the ash. Overall for the value and compared to the cost of other offset smokers this is a great product. It does have a couple of potential improvements but with some adaptation or modifications it has worked really well both as a long cook smoker but also for generic BBQ food (burgers sausages etc). If you don't want the cost of one of the more well known brands but still want a heavy duty, quality product then go for this but be prepared to make the small investment for a couple of adaptations.

    Recommended! Not cooked on it yet, but first impressions very good: well-packed, sturdy materials and assembly guidance mostly easy to follow (and I’m not a DIY enthusiast). Some tips:

    1. Use sticky labels to identify and lay out all 50 odd- parts, and put the screws, bolts etc (10 different elements) in cups or similar to make it easy to choose the one you need.

    2. Assembling the fire-box (steps 1-8 in the guide) is best done on a spacious work-surface – no problem to manoeuvre it as needed.

    3. Parts 7, 9 and 19 (rear firebox panel, warming rack and wheel-axle) are all packed together – easy to miss (especially the axle).

    4. Make sure you put the two parts 30 (rear firebox panel hinges) the right way up – otherwise the hood won’t stay open.

    5. It took me ages to get the crank handle for the charcoal tray (part 13) to work properly. I worked out that this is because part 12 (the bracket it goes through) has to be screwed to the back of the front firebox panel (part 6) – probably obvious to anyone else!

    I’m confident this will be a fine piece of kit, at a reasonable price.

    Absolutely love this BBQ! Once I’d finally finished putting it together (I think I now qualify as an IKEA engineer), it’s been nothing short of brilliant.

    The temperature control is excellent thanks to the adjustable charcoal tray and built-in thermometer, and the smoker function gives food an amazing authentic BBQ flavour. Burgers, steaks, chicken, ribs – everything has come out perfectly. There’s loads of cooking space, so feeding a crowd is no problem, and the folding side shelves are surprisingly handy.

    Build quality feels solid for the price, it looks great in the garden, and cleaning it afterwards is much easier than I expected.

    My only warning: allow yourself a couple of hours and maybe a cup of tea (or something stronger) for the assembly. Once it’s built though, you’ll forget all about that the first time you bite into a perfectly smoked rack of ribs.

    Fantastic value for money. My neighbours now mysteriously appear every time they smell smoke coming over the fence… 5⭐ from me!

    I recently purchased the CosmoGrill Outdoor XL Smoker Barbecue Charcoal Portable BBQ Grill, and overall, I am really impressed with the product.

    To start, there was a minor issue during assembly where one of the pieces arrived slightly bent. However, I was able to reshape it without much trouble, so it didn’t affect the overall experience. Once everything was put together, the grill looked great, was sturdy, and felt very well-constructed. The design is solid, and you can tell that the materials used are durable and built to last.

    I’ve noticed that some other reviews are very critical of the product, and I do think many of them are a bit unfair. Some complaints were centered around faulty items or people who seemed to struggle with assembly - while those issues are unfortunate, they don’t reflect the quality of the product as a whole. It’s important to give the product a fair shot, follow the instructions carefully, and not jump to conclusions just because of a small issue.

    A particular point of contention in some of the negative reviews was about the patina that develops on the grill after use. Honestly, this didn’t surprise me at all - it's a metal structure, and when you’re heating it up for grilling, it’s inevitable that it will lose its shiny, new look over time. This is a normal part of the grilling experience and doesn’t affect the functionality at all.

    I’m planning to use the grill this weekend, and I will update my review after I’ve had a chance to really put it to the test. But so far, I’m excited about the purchase and feel confident in its quality. If you’re on the fence, I wouldn’t let the negative reviews dissuade you. It’s a great product once assembled correctly, and the patina issue isn’t a dealbreaker for me. Looking forward to many successful cookouts!

    My son (14) set this up and was dead straight forward to do, the build quality on it is excellent ! I love that they have added a little note with the manual saying to contaact them with any issues you have setting it up.

    I had 8 friends over a few days ago when the weather was warm and used the Cosmo for the first time and it was an absolute champion and handled all the food we threw at it.

    All in all, its a great BBQ and would definatly reccomend it to anyone that wants something thats look decent and does a great job, 5 Stars from me all day long.

Then day two tried out smoking and it proformed much better than expected managed to hold temp really well and gave a great smoke ring on the Ribs. Would 100% recommend for someone wanting to get into BBQing on a budget.

Featuring a generously sized grilling area, there’s plenty of space to have over ten burger patties and ten sausages cooking at any time, as well as grilling or smoking whole baby chickens, wings, steaks, fish, brisket and much more. The height-adjustable coal tray enables better control over how much heat is distributed to accommodate specific cooking requirements for fish, meat and vegetables. What’s more enticing is how simple it is to clean the barbecue after a day of grilling, the coal tray and grill are easily removable and the barbecue itself requires a quick wipe down.
