Lost contributions after email change and re-linking #158840
-
Select Topic AreaBug BodyHello! Recently(28-04-2025), I changed the main email that was attached to my account, then by mistake deleted the previous one and re-linked it back. By doing that, github removed all contributions that were linked to the previous email of mine, then after attaching the old email back it re-indexed the commits but only within repos that were created under my account. All the commits I've made to repositories hosted under other profiles/organizations do not show up. What is also interesting is that, If I open the repo I've contributed, my profile does not show up in the I have waited for at least a week and nothing really changed, so I thought I might open an issue here as well. I can provide a few repositories where I contributed and these commits do not show up in the contributions tab, if needed. I would really appreciate any guidance on how to restore these missing contributions or if there's a known timeframe for when they might reappear automatically. Thanks. |

Hey @es3n1n and @xShive I just received this reply from support regarding this situation: """ Hi Robert, I do apologize for the delay in getting back to you on this. I'm afraid though, that there are no automated options for merging user accounts on GitHub.com. To 'merge' two accounts, the only option would be to follow the manual steps outlined in this support article: Merging multiple personal accounts I must note though, that if any past contributions from the (to be deleted) account were using a private 'noreply' email address, those cannot be transferred between accounts and so the contribution history would be lost when that account is deleted. Such commits would then instead show the author.name details that were embedded in the commit itself. To your specific query on achievements, some will transfer with the linked email address but for any others, those are not able to be transferred between accounts and would also be lost if the other account is removed. Apologies we cannot accommodate your request but I hope this information helps clarify on the options here. Regards, Mark """ |
