I recently worked on bringing Runtime Power Management support to the Raspberry Pi V3D driver, and wrote a blog post about what it took to get there. This work started as a seemingly simple local driver change, but ended up touching several parts of the stack, from Raspberry Pi firmware-managed clocks to power domains and V3D runtime handling. The result is a more power-efficient graphics stack, with noticeable idle power savings on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5.
