Gardaí launch probe after hoax bomb threat results in evacuation of Galway courthouse
Gardaí confirmed they were satisfied the hoax was a threat
Gardaí have launched an investigation after a hoax bomb threat resulted in the evacuation of a Galway courthouse.
Galway Courthouse at Courthouse Square was cleared out at around 10am on Wednesday morning, with hearings disrupted for about an hour and a half while authorities searched the building following the hoax bomb threat.
The evacuation order came after the force were made aware of a "security alert" at Loughrea Circuit Court in Galway following a message demanding the court sitting be postponed or a “device” would be detonated.
The message read: "Bomb Alert. We demand the sitting of Loughrea Circuit Court is postponed this Wednesday 10/06. If our demands are not met, this device will be detonated. You have been warned. We will support our Irish."
Officers declared the areas safe and confirmed the incident was a hoax, but stressed they are investigating the threat.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí were made aware of a security alert at a premises at The Green, Loughrea, Co Galway earlier this morning, Wednesday, 10 June 2026.
"Following further enquiries in relation to that premises and a second premises at Courthouse Square, Galway, An Garda Síochána is satisfied that the alert has been deemed to be a hoax and the areas were declared safe. Investigations ongoing."
