Man due in court after serious assault leaves man fighting for life in hospital

A man in his 30s is due in court

A man is due in court in connection with a serious Dublin assault that left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

The 38-year-old Dubliner is in critical condition in the Mater Hospital after allegedly being beaten in Foley Street on Monday night. The man was allegedly beaten up at the back of the Talbot Street SuperValu shop around 11.40pm. It is understood that he lay injured on the street for almost two hours before emergency services were alerted.

The man was ultimately taken to the Mater Hospital at 2am on Tuesday morning, where it is understood he is being treated for very serious head injuries. Gardaí from nearby Store Street station attended the scene and a man in his 30s was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.

Now, Gardaí have charged the man and he is due to appear before Court 1 of the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin on Thursday morning.

A Garda spokesperson said: "The man (30s) arrested in connection with the serious assault that occurred on Foley Street, Dublin 1, on Monday 6 July, has been charged.

"He is due to appear before Court 1 of the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, this morning Thursday, 9 July."
