Garda probe underway after Galway school ransacked and musical instruments damaged during break-in

An urgent appeal has been issued to the public

Gardaí in Galway have launched a significant investigation following a callous break-in at a historic local building that has left the surrounding community deeply shaken.

The disturbing incident occurred at The Old National School in Bullaun, near Loughrea, where intruders forced entry into the premises and wreaked havoc on the interior.

According to the most recent Garda report, the burglary took place between midnight and 9am on Friday, July 3. The perpetrators successfully gained access to the building before carrying out the senseless destruction within.

Compounding the misery for the local community, several valuable musical instruments being stored inside the old school were also severely damaged during the mindless raid.

Officers are determined to identify those responsible and are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour or noticed individuals lingering near the building on Friday morning to contact Loughrea Garda Station without delay, reports Galway Beo.

The school break-in comes during a particularly hectic period for local officers, who are simultaneously investigating a targeted late-night raid at a busy construction site in Athenry.

Thieves descended upon a site at Páirc Na Rí between half past one and half past two yesterday morning, Monday. The criminals sliced through heavy-duty locks securing shipping containers at the location, making off with a substantial amount of valuable copper and lead.

Gardaí suspect the perpetrators gained access to the construction site by cutting through the adjacent Ard Esker estate. Anyone who observed suspicious vehicles or individuals in the vicinity, or who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen metal, is encouraged to contact Athenry Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
