GAA Team News: Tyrone dealt huge blow as star forward ruled out of All-Ireland Kerry clash
Tyrone have been dealt a major blow ahead of their All-Ireland SFC quarter-final clash with Kerry at Croke Park on Saturday, with Darragh Canavan ruled out due to injury. Meanwhile, Dublin receive a boost as Con O'Callaghan is named to start against Galway
Darragh Canavan will be absent for Saturday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final clash with Kerry at Croke Park.
The Errigal Ciaran star had been battling a hip flexor injury in recent weeks and missed the round one victory over Roscommon, only coming on for the final four minutes of the Round 2A win against Mayo in Omagh a fortnight ago.
There had been hopes that the two-week gap would allow Canavan to return to full fitness and play a more substantial part against Tyrone's next opponents, but it seems he has experienced another setback in his recovery and his name is absent from the standby players list.
Enda Smith did feature in their Round 2B defeat to Monaghan despite not being listed as standby player, but it was reported that the GAA's CCCC accepted that was down to a clear administration error
O'Rourke has also chosen to retain Darren McCurry as an impact substitute after the Edendork clubman scored 0-6 in the second half against Mayo.
Unsurprisingly, Kerry boss Jack O'Connor has also selected an unchanged side following on from their 13-point demolition of Armagh in Killarney.
Gavin White and Sean O'Shea remain on the bench, while Micheál Burns comes back into the match-day panel at the expense of Tomás Kennedy after completing a two-game suspension.
Meanwhile, Dublin have received a significant boost after Con O'Callaghan was named to start their quarter-final encounter with Galway on Sunday. O'Callaghan appeared to suffer a hamstring problem late in the match against Donegal last weekend, but has been declared fit enough to start.
His Cuala team-mate Nathan Doran is ruled out after sustaining a suspected Achilles injury last weekend and will be replaced by Eoin Kennedy.
Galway have made one change with Shane McGrath coming in for Fionn McDonagh, while the Tribesmen will leave the number 10 jersey unused on Sunday as a tribute to two-time All-Ireland winner Paul Clancy, who died earlier this week, aged 49.
Monaghan remain unchanged for their encounter with Louth despite fitness doubts over goalkeeper Rory Beggan, who sustained a dead leg against Westmeath, while Gavin Devlin has also stuck with the same 15 who started their dramatic Round 2A win over Armagh in Inniskeen.
Cork have made one change for their showdown with Mayo with Colm O’Callaghan returning from suspension in place of Sean Walsh while Mayo also make one switch with Stephen Coen coming in for Paddy Durcan, who picked up an injury in the first half against Meath last Saturday.
