'I gave my baby a very unique name but people think it's criminal'
A pregnant mum has come under fire after sharing the "unique" name she gave her son, as well as the "ridiculous" options she considered now she's due to have her second baby boy
A pregnant mum has been slammed for the “unique” name she chose for her son, with some branding her choice “criminal”. Deciding what to name a baby is a huge decision which can cause disagreements and debates among countless parents-to-be. This is because people’s tastes vary wildly, and what one person loves, another may loathe.
Parents-to-be have to come to an agreement on what to call their child - and they may not necessarily end up with their first choice, especially if their partner isn’t sold on the idea. For some parents, the most important consideration regarding a name is its perceived “uniqueness”. Many want to ensure their child stands out, or doesn’t share a name with anyone else growing up.
Some less traditional names can be beautiful and creative, while others can cause headaches by completely ignoring all conventional rules of phonics. Many bizarrely spelled or overly quirky names end up being mocked on social media.
This seems to be the experience of 26-year-old Chloe, who has a little boy with a “unique” name and is currently pregnant with her second child, also a boy. In a recent video shared on TikTok, Chloe talked through her favourite names.
She began: “We went viral for having the most unique baby name in 2024. So, here’s a list of names we love but won’t be using - they are very unique.”
Chloe confirmed she and her husband have “already got a name picked” for their unborn baby boy and claimed “it’s very unique”, but she was still keen to share the contenders they ruled out for their second child.
First on her list was 'Runner', “like runner, track star.” Chloe simply said: “I absolutely love that.” She added her husband “liked it, but not enough to use it.”
Next, Chloe considered 'Boa', “like a boa constrictor, like the snake” which she believes is “so beautiful, so cute, but almost not unique enough.” She was also a fan of potentially using 'Rodeo' as a name for her son, and then said she liked 'Bear', but couldn’t use it for “obvious reasons”.
This is because of the name she chose for her first child. Chloe explained: “My son is called Grizzly, if you didn’t know that, after the bear. So, I can’t have Grizzly and a bear.”
The pregnant mum also said she loved Paris for a boy, but her husband wasn’t convinced, and she’s also a fan of 'Reacher' as a name. Rounding off her list, Chloe said: “I’m just gonna rapid fire these last few ones: ‘Jagger’, ‘Sled’, ‘Rugs’, ‘Gator’, 'Moab' - Moab is so stoic and staunch to me.
“The name ‘Ridge’, the name ‘West’ and I absolutely love the name ‘Ranger’, but we will not be using any of those for this baby boy. He’s already got his name and I cannot wait to announce it once he’s born.”
The response
In the comments section, people were keen to share their thoughts, with the vast majority unimpressed by Chloe’s preferences.
One person said: “Just remember your baby will be an adult one day and these names will no longer be cute.” Another said: “I wish this was satire…”
While a third asked: “Sorry did you say your son’s name is Grizzly?” And a fourth simply said: “Grizzly is criminal.”
One TikTok user pointed out: “These are words… not names” while another agreed: “What are these names bro”. Someone else said: “‘Unique’ or ridiculous?”
And another person commented: “If you have to explain your child’s name and spell it, it’s ridiculous”. To which, Chloe replied: “Thank gosh some people have open minds.”
