Prince George and Princess Charlotte enjoy Wimbledon while Kate presents winner's trophy to Sinner
The Prince and Princess of Wales were joined on Sunday by their two older children, as they fanned themselves to stay cool in the blistering summer sun
Princess Kate often attends the Wimbledon finals, and this year was no exception as she brought her family with her to SW19 for the occasion. The Princess of Wales was joined by her husband Prince William, her eldest son Prince George and her daughter Princess Charlotte on Sunday as they all attended the men’s singles final.
Prince Louis has yet to make his Wimbledon debut, but George and Charlotte have now attended the tournament alongside their parents many times.
Together the family arrived to watch Jannik Sinner’s match with Alexander Zverev on Centre Court, but were greeted by a line-up of guests before they took their seats in the royal box.
During their introductions, British Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery invited George and Charlotte to play tennis with him as William and Kate congratulated the tennis player on his run to the semi-finals and wished him a happy birthday, as he celebrated turning 24 yesterday.
Following the meeting, Fery said: "I mean the princess came to my match in the second round, it was great to have her there and we spoke a little about that.
“It was good to see her here and good to finally meet her. She wished me good luck for the rest of the year and congratulated me for these two weeks. I know the whole family are all tennis fans, so I told her if her kids ever wanted to hit, I’m free. It would be good to see them again.”
During the intense final match, George was seen donning sunglasses and a hat to stay out of the sun, also using a hand-held fan to keep himself cool. Charlotte was seen chatting animatedly with her mother, who seemed to be explaining rules or tactics of the game as she pointed to the court.
Kate, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, then presented Jannik Sinner with the Wimbledon trophy as he beat Alexander Zverev, resulting in back-to-back Wimbledon victories.
The Princess of Wales told Jannik that it is “really inspiring” for George and Charlotte to watch tennis played at his level, as she told the sportsman: “You’ve had such a fantastic tournament so really, really well done. Hope you get a good break after this.”
The princess later added: “It’s really inspiring for the children to see tennis at that level.” Jannik later spoke to the young royals after his victory, as he asked George if he was still playing tennis, to which the 12-year-old responded: “Yeah, very much so.”
