Darts star suspended with match-fixing investigation launched weeks after emotional return

The Darts Regulation Authority have suspended a player and have launched a full-scale investigation following allegations of match fixing

Danny Baggish has been suspended by the Darts Regulation Authority pending an investigation following an allegation of match fixing. The 42-year-old, nicknamed 'The Gambler', was suspended on Sunday, May 3 until further notice after claims emerged he was involved in match fixing while competing in the Modus Super Series.

Last month, Baggish was scheduled to play in Finals Night in the Modus Super Series having secured qualification through the group stage. However, the organisation announced he was unable to take part before play could begin.

Baggish appears on WDF's website under their "List of Disciplined Players and Officials'. Less than a month ago, Baggish made his return to the sport following a three-year break.

The Guam-born thrower came back in spectacular style, topping Group A at MSS in Portsmouth. A 4-1 victory over Canada's Jeff Smith in his final group match saw him record 11 wins and four losses from his fixtures, accumulating 22 points in the process.

He shared the same points tally as second-placed Dawson Murschell, but possessed a superior leg difference and therefore claimed top spot in his group. After landing the winning double against Smith, Baggish celebrated with a heartfelt tribute to his late son.

The American, who lost his son to cancer in late 2025 when the child was just 19 months old, was in tears as he held up a photograph in his memory. Speaking after the match in the studio, Baggish was asked about the emotional moment, but struggled to find the words as he dedicated the victory to his beloved son.

Fighting back tears as he revealed the importance of his win, Baggish said: "So much. I'm sorry."

After regaining his composure, Baggish admitted he has been wrestling with his emotions to return to the oche since his last UK appearance in December 2022. He said: "It meant a lot, but I felt it when I got to three legs.

"I felt the emotions take over a little bit so I had to take a deep breath back there. I think last night was the first night I started thinking about back home and stuff. So for a good hour, I was a wreck last night."

"You have to keep it in, you have a job to do. You've got to do what you came here to do and you hold it in until there's a time to release that.

"I have always been an emotional player, but this is different. The moment I hit that double tops, it was a lot of relief and thoughts, appreciation and love came out."

Baggish held a PDC Tour Card in 2021 and 2022, and previously featured in three World Championships, with his most recent outing coming three years ago when he was defeated in the second round by Mervyn King.
