Darts world champion's wife asks for his trophies back after he 'gave them up on a bad day'

The darts hero's wife took to social media in a bid to reclaim the trophies

The family of darts star Peter Wright are "devastated" after he parted with his trophies. Wright is widely considered one of the greatest players in the sport, boasting two world titles, one World Matchplay, a UK Open and two World Cups amongst his achievements.

He has struggled for form in recent years, however, slipping to world No. 34 in the rankings. The eye-catching Scot's World Championship and World Matchplay replica trophies were listed for sale this week by Dart Gear Competitions.

The items on offer also included a signed photograph from Wright's Matchplay victory in 2021. Upon discovering that Snakebite's cherished silverware had been put up for sale, Wright's wife Joanne took to X, writing: "No they aren't for sale. They weren't approved to be sold. They belong to our children."

She continued: "It was never our intention for these sentimental items to be sold off in this manner, Peter gave them up on a bad day really.

"They are keepsakes for our children. So we are happy to pay back what was paid to use to receive these items back for our family. I've left a message for someone to call me from the people selling.

"But I did explain the situation as long as they take them all off social media and arrange the return of them with me. We are devastated that he did this. The world's trophy was a wedding present to our daughter Naomi. The large frames I bought them."

Dart Gear Competitions issued their response through a Facebook video on Tuesday evening, stating they were willing to "reverse the transaction" and would even personally deliver the trophies back to the darts legend.

Their statement read: "This is a response video about the Peter Wright trophies that we purchased over the weekend. It all started on Thursday, Peter gave me a call asking if I wanted to buy some darts which I did.

"Over the weekend there were various messages from Peter asking if I'd like to purchase his trophies. On Sunday I agreed a price for the Matchplay and World Championship trophy and some shirts.

"Monday I went round as arranged and picked up the trophies. Since we've had the trophies in our house all we've seen is various backlash on social media from Peter's wife tweets stating these were promised to their children.

"Peter we've tried to call you, these were bought in good faith. So Peter all you have to do is give me a call. We've put the trophies into storage, you're more than welcome to have them back. All we want to do is have the reverse transaction done."

Wright produced a commendable run at the 2025 World Championship, knocking out defending champion Luke Humphries before falling to Stephen Bunting at the quarter-final stage. His most recent major triumph, however, came at the German Darts Championship in 2024, where he defeated world No. 1 Luke Littler.
