Bradley Walsh announces 'opportunity' away from The Chase after farewell to show

TV presenter and actor Bradley Walsh has revealed he's landed a new role away from The Chase after confirming that the ITV quiz show is taking a break for an extended period.

Bradley Walsh, 66, has teased a return to acting as The Chase goes on a break for "just over a year".

The multi-talented TV presenter, who most recently starred as "Pop" Larkin in the ITV comedy-drama series The Larkins, said he's looking forward to working on "another drama".

Discussing the pause in filming for The Chase, Bradley told The Sun's TV Mag: “We’ve been stockpiling. So we’re going to take a rest for just over a year or something, which everyone is sort of thrilled about because they can go away and do other stuff.

"I haven’t been able to do a drama in ages, so I now get the opportunity to go back and do another drama.”

He's also set to host a brand-new series for Sky History, Out of This World, which "blends scientific exploration with curiosity and humour as he investigates the greatest mysteries on Earth".

The programme will explore unexplained phenomena such as crop circles and will have access to official military files both in the UK and the US, which document potential extraterrestrial sightings.

Despite his excitement about spreading his wings and working on other projects, Bradley made it clear that he'll be happy to return to The Chase when the time comes.

The former Doctor Who actor explained: “It’s funny how the show gets into people’s psyche –familiarity doesn’t breed contempt, sometimes it just breeds happiness.

"The team are brilliant– the best I’ve ever worked with, bar none – and I love working with them, I really do. We’ve all become firm friends.

"All of our people who’ve worked on it have either got married or had kids. During that time, I think 20 children have been born to our production staff. That’s the most wonderful thing. It’s a juggernaut and long may it reign.”

Bradley and the Chasers may be taking some time away from the main show, but a new spin-off will be arriving to our screens soon, entitled The Chase Around The World.

The ITV show, which begins on Thursday 16 July, will see six pairs of contestants aiming to track down the Chasers during a global tour.

Visiting Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris, Rome and Zurich, before a finale in Athens, the contestants will solve puzzles along the way, with the winning team eventually taking on the Chasers in a bid to grab a £100,000 prize.
