Disney fans declare 'major moment' as reboot of classic noughties show unveiled

An exact release date has yet to be confirmed, but Disney fans already cannot wait

Disney fans have declared a "major moment" as a reboot of a childhood "classic" has been teased, and it will star some familiar faces.

Today (Thursday, July 9), Disney Plus has confirmed that the Cheetah Girls will return with a brand new film titled The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen, which has now been given the green light for production.

Originally launching in 2003 with their hit film The Cheetah Girls, it chronicled four teenage best friends Galleria (Raven-Symoné), Chanel (Adrienne Bailon), Dorinda (Sabrina Bryan), and Aqua (Kiely Williams) as they navigated teenage years in high school, friendship and the music industry.

It was so successful it brought two further films in 2006 and 2008. But now, fans will be pleased to hear another is on its way - with some of the original stars.

Disney Plus has teased: "The story picks up when Cheetah Girls Galleria (Symoné) and Chanel (Bailon), alongside Galleria's daughter Faith (Jeffries) and her three friends, travel to Africa to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary.

"Along the way, these four teen girls test their friendship, find their voice, and discover the true Cheetah spirit as they save the preserve and ultimately take the stage as the new Cheetah Girls."
