Street Team International (STI) is a virtual study abroad program for healing and understanding on our website. It engages participants in exchanging knowledge and promotes intercultural dialogue through African and African diaspora experiences. We also explore civic engagement and develop life and leadership skills through an anti-racism curriculum and media production.
Street Team International’s countries and focus themes are Sweden (Black Suede Citizen Adaptation), Ghana (21st Century Pan-Africanism), Ireland (African Asylum Seekers and Immigrants), and Cuba (Afro-Cuban Social Status). Currently, each STI country shares four citizen videos that comment on the theme selected for their country during our visit, building on the initial country and theme introductions.
Looking ahead, we plan to publish a permanent classroom (lab or conference) presentation for each country this summer. Each presentation will be about 45 minutes long and delivered via a PowerPoint-based video. The video will begin with an introduction to the home country, followed by historical, geographic, and demographic information, as well as critical language vocabulary and references for advanced study. Each presentation will feature contributions from an administrator, an elder, an academic, and two youths (one post-secondary and one high school), providing a range of perspectives.
