All About Me
(or, at least, someabout me)

I grew up in suburban Philadelphia, which means while I don’t know how to get myself from Point A to Point anywhere within the city limits, I can rhapsodize at length about the superiority of Philly soft pretzels and why Tastykakes are more edible than you think.

Like most only children with terrifying hair, no pets, and coke bottle glasses, I had a lot of time on my own, most of it spent imagining myself into a story–the rest of it spent begging my parents for a puppy.

 

Once I finally grew up, I moved to Brooklyn to edit children’s books…then to Los Angeles to study the history of science…then back to Brooklyn, where I’ve been ever since, writing and procrastinating and sampling the borough’s ample variety of ice cream flavors.

My writing has appeared in Tin House, The New York Times, TheAtlantic.com, and The LA Review of Books. My books for young adults include The Waking Dark, The Book of Blood and Shadow, and the Seven Deadly Sins series, which was adapted into a glorious (in my unbiased opinion) television miniseries.  I teach on the faculty of the low-residency Mountainview MFA program, am a MacDowell Fellow, and am still working on that puppy.
