    Who's Hiring? - Support Edition - Q3 2026

Welcome to the trial post of a "Who's Hiring?" call for non-software engineer positions!

As we try to kick this off, I would love community input on things like;

  1. What other details would you like employers to provide in their initial reply?
  2. What frequency do we want? Quarterly? Monthly? Every other week?
  3. Are there any other roles that should be considered for these posts?

Any job postings should be geared towards needed company roles other than Software Engineer, such as customer support, data entry, field technician, marketing, purchasers, etc...that list can get quite long, depending on the size of the company and type of business.

We'll keep this initial post conversational for the sake of getting community input about what we want to see and refining the template. Should this garner enough interest and stick, future posts should result in only/mostly job postings in the comments.

This sounds very interesting and I'd suggest a monthly cadence to start, unless there's not enough participation, then move to quarterly. The accepted kinds of roles might need a clearer definition, though.

Monthly seems like a reasonable start.

As for defining positions, do you have any specific additions or suggestions?

      2. 2

Thank you! I was actually wondering about this yesterday...

My pleasure! As the day wears on, hopefully we get some more feedback, but since you were thinking about it, do you have anything you'd like to see added? Thoughts on post frequency?

I agree about the monthly cadence.

I think you could trim down the requested fields - e.g.

1 - the Culture of a company is rarely what the marketing meterials say it is,

2 - no-one's going to be applying for a job without reading the job description that will already be up on your website (or your recruiter partner's) so the "Additional" and "Experience" (and possibly also the "Compensation") could be relegated to a link to the JD

Admittedly, this might not please lots of people, and I do like communication to be concise

You're right about culture. I suppose there is a part of me that uses that to look for red flags (i.e. companies that say they are "fast paced" are the same companies that confuse the ability to pivot with straight-up spinning in circles). We'll remove that for now, since the candidate should be doing a bit of their own research anyway.

I'm going to leave Compensation in for sure, but will consider removing/combining the others. I'm in the camp where any employer who can't take the few extra keystrokes to tell me the pay range is likely hunting for the cheapest possible candidate, which tells you all you need to know about the decisions at the leadership level.

Since the aim of these posts is to look at positions that are not code-centric, my thought with Experience and Additional Notes was to give the employer a chance to explain what the ideal candidate looks like without having to take the candidate offsite, possibly jumping through the hoops of a portal/signup just to see a job with a qualification(s) they do not have. I meantion this because I've been there a few times, and while I like information that is concise and to the point, I also dislike having my time wasted just as much as employers do. What if we just combine them as "Who Should Apply" so the employer has a quick opportunity to describe who they are looking for before a connection is made?

                red flags

Yeah - true. TBH - I just ignore those sections :-)

                Who should apply

                That makes sense.

Note to self; need a Location field
