Love Island's Lucie Donlan and Luke Mabbott's wedding photo album as guests left in tears
EXCLUSIVE: Love Island stars Lucie Donlan and Luke Mabbott have shared the details of their wedding day in Cornwall, which was filled with "laughter, love and happy tears"
Love Islanders Lucie Donlan and Luke Mabbott celebrated with “laughter, love and happy tears” when they tied the knot in the idyllic Cornish countryside.
Despite starring on different series, Luke and Lucie became the fifth couple from the dating show to marry, saying “I do” surrounded by 50 close friends and family.
Surf-loving Lucie, 28, who appeared on 2019’s summer series, looked effortlessly elegant in her flowing white gown and veil – delicately embroidered with plants and birds – from bridal specialists Rue de Seine.
Luke, 31, who starred on the winter series in 2020, says seeing his bride walk down the aisle to their chosen song, Dandelions by Ruth B, was hugely moving.
“It’s not very often I’m lost for words or get emotional, but this was definitely one of the best moments of my life,” he tells us. “Then, just when it couldn’t get any better, another very important lady came trotting down the aisle – our rescue dog, Bunny. That definitely got the tears flowing.”
For Lucie, it was something of a milestone moment, as she had never seen Luke cry before.
“Seeing him so emotional was really special,” she says. “It was such a heartfelt day from start to finish.”
The pair wed at Nancarrow Farm, four miles north of Truro, after hearing about the venue’s famous roast dinners.
“We got married in a beautiful rustic barn surrounded by fields, with seasonal wildflowers displayed in old milk churns,” says Lucie. “It was very us – relaxed, fun and full of laughter, love and happy tears.”
The day was filled with personal touches, such as inviting family members to plant everlasting sweet peas, while their wedding bands featured three aquamarines to represent the three stars of Orion’s Belt, which they saw together on the first night they met back in 2020.
“Little details like that made the ceremony feel so personal to us,” says Lucie. “And the date – 17 June – was the very date we met.”
The couple connected after Lucie “slid into Luke’s DMs” after seeing him on the show, although none of their co-stars were present on their big day.
“Although we’re so thankful the show led us to each other, we’re quite private people, so keeping our wedding small and personal just felt right for us,” says Lucie. “It’s been six or seven years since we were on Love Island and we’ve both changed a lot since then.”
Tradition went out of the window, too, with the couple spending the night before the wedding together. Lucie says, “We actually sat in bed and read our vows to each other. It was such a special, quiet moment.”
The following day, they even ditched the idea of a first dance. “We both felt a bit nervous about doing one, so instead we had our cider tower and cake cutting in front of everyone,” says Lucie. “It felt much more like us.”
Emotions continued to run high during the speeches. While Luke’s brother and best man Liam kept things light with tales of “embarrassing moments growing up”, the father-of-the-bride’s speech was more poignant.
“My dad’s speech was incredibly emotional,” Lucie recalls. “Hearing him speak after walking me down the aisle meant the world to me. It was something I’ll treasure forever.”
The wedding breakfast featured locally sourced delicacies such as wood-fired scallops and Cornish crab cakes, along with the famous roast that won Lucie and Luke over in the first place.
“So many of our guests said it was the best food they’d ever had at a wedding, which made us so happy,” says Lucie.
The following day, the newlyweds indulged their shared love of the ocean with a “mini moon” at Carbis Bay Hotel and Estate in St Ives.
“It’s actually where we went just after we got engaged, so it felt really special to go back there as husband and wife,” says Lucie.
As to whether parenthood is on the horizon, Lucie says it’s only a matter of time.
“We already call ourselves a little family with Bunny, so the thought of growing our family one day would be really lovely,” she beams. “For now, we’re enjoying this new chapter as husband and wife, but we’d absolutely love that to be part of our future one day.”
